Joan Elizabeth (McHanny) Locke, 74, of Urbana passed away on June 23, 2016 in First Community Village Nursing Home, Columbus.
She was born on February 11, 1942 in Sherman, Texas the daughter of Eddie and Anna (Hughley) McHanny. Joan graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in 1960. During her years in high school she participated in basketball, cheerleading and many other activities. She retired from Drackett after 23 years of service.
Joan enjoyed many things in life. Some of Joan’s favorite things were bowling, being a hairstylist, cooking, music and dancing, fashion, shopping and babysitting. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and taking care of others.
She is survived by her son Richard A.(Cheri) Locke of Columbus; her daughters, Sandra and Tina Locke both of Urbana; her grandchildren, Tony (Corie) Locke, Sade Locke, Mehrisa Locke, Andonia Elizabeth Locke and Alex Lohnes; great-grandchildren, Emerson Elizabeth Locke, Drayden and Maliyah Joan Sims; her sisters, Alice Tillman and Blythe Rose.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Eddie, Gabe, Curtis and Mack; sisters, Patricia and Marie; maternal grandfather Essick Hughley; grandmother, Edie Hughley; mother-in-law Mary Locke.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2:00-5:00 PM on Sunday June 26, 2016 in the VERNON FUNERL HOME, Urbana. A Funeral service will be held at 5:00 PM on Sunday in the funeral home with Rev. Carl B. Vactor officiating.
