John L. Neer

John Luther Neer, 98, of North Lewisburg passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at his log home in North Lewisburg.

He was born in Catawba on April 5, 1923 to the late Leonard Joseph Neer and Chrystal McClenen Neer. On August 26, 1945 he married Barbara "Jeanne" Dallas. John is preceded in death by his wife, of 73 years "Jeanne" Neer, brother Richard Neer, sister Mary Jane North, brother and sister-in-laws, Keith (Grace), Robert (June) and Donald (Marilyn) Dallas, niece Melissa North Notestine and nephew Jack North.

He is survived by his daughter Susan (Jim) Wish of Bellefontaine, his sons, Kent, Dale (Sara) of Marysville and Chris (Cheryl) of West Jefferson, sister-in-law, Juanita Neer. Ten grandchildren, Kasey, Kraig (Megan), Aimee (John) Braswell, Jason (Kristin) Wish, Jon (Kristen) Wish, Joel (Jodie) Wish, Clayton (Carol), Elizabeth Neer, Thomas and Maureen, nineteen great grandchildren and eleven nieces and nephews.

John graduated from Urbana Local schools in 1942. He farmed in Tipp City, Mechanicsburg, Woodstock and Mingo, raising hogs, registered Angus cattle and feeder cattle.
John was a member of the Spring Fork Grange in Plumwood. He was a 4-H beef club advisor, a member of the National and State Cattlemen's Association, the Woodstock Lions Club and the North Lewisburg United Methodist Church.

John actively promoted beef throughout Ohio, at the county fair, Farm Science Review, the state fair and the Ohio Beef Council. He and his wife traveled to all fifty states and Brazil attending National Cattlemen conventions regularly.

John and Jeanne reconstructed a pre 1820 log cabin on their property which they rented for vacations and meetings; and then they later retired too.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing on his property as well as out west and Canada.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Monday, October 25, 2021 in the FRESHWATER, MCDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, North Lewisburg, Ohio. Funeral services will follow at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Willetts officiating.

Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, North Lewisburg.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ohio Beef Council, 10600 US Highway 42, Marysville, Ohio 43040 or to the Woodstock Lions Club, 2335 St. Rte. 559, Woodstock, OH 43084.
