John H. Violet, 79 of Springfield, Ohio passed away on Monday, May 31, 2021 in the Springfield Regional Medical Center.
John was born June 9, 1941 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio, the son of the late Charles H. and Opal (Jordan) Violet. He was a 1959 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School. John served his country in the United States Army. He drove trucks in the Army and after he was discharged he continued driving trucks for 43 years. He visited every state except Alaska. His interests included Sprint cars, Benjamin Franklin & Aviation. He thoroughly enjoyed visiting the National Air Force Museum in Dayton. He had a strong work ethic and a great sense of humor. He could be incredibly stubborn but had a gentle and loving spirit. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and will be dearly missed.
John is survived by his son David Smith; sister Dorothy Moore and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Dolores (Wood) Violet; his son Morton Smith and his siblings, Don Violet, Mike Violet and Pam Nixon.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 4, 2021 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg, Ohio with Pastor Dave Cox officiating.
Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
