Joretta “Jetty” “Jo” Graham, 79, of Mechanicsburg, passed away Saturday, December 18, 2010 in her residence.
She was born May 28, 1931 in Mechanicsburg, OH the daughter of James and Ercel (Smith) Bogard.
Jo was a 1949 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School. She devoted her life to helping others-especially those who were less fortunate. Jo was instrumental in the opening of the Habitat for Humanity Restore in Urbana. She was a board member for Tri-County Community Action; and was also involved with the Salvation Army, Literacy Council, Champaign County Continuum of Care, Cancer Association of Champaign County, Urbana Senior Citizens, Area Agency on Aging, Election Board, U.S. Census Bureau, Adult Protective Services, Champaign County Senior Citizens, Stepping Stones, the Caring Kitchen and S.A.L.T. She had a passion for witnessing for her Lord and Savior; and she loved and supported her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter Terri (Dan) Bennett of East Liberty; grandchildren, Sarah (Matt) Cordell of Wahiawa, HI, Sammy Goheen of Mechanicsburg, Matt (Sarah Beth) Bennett of Oak Hill, OH and Andy Bennett of East Liberty; great grandchildren, Jackson Goheen, Braelyn and Autumn Feasel; brothers, Bill (Patty) Bogard of Mechanicsburg, Jay Dee (Ann) Bogard of Mechanicsburg and Jimmy (Terri) Bogard of Springfield; sister, Janet (Roger) Herron of Cable; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Norma) Graham of South Vienna; 13 nieces and nephews, 13 great nieces and nephews and 23 great-great nieces and nephews.
Jo is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul Graham; sister, Shirley Wheaton; brother-in-laws, James Wheaton and Kenneth Lewis; sister-in-law, Naomi Lewis.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Harley Roston officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
