Joy F. Bowdry, 85, of Mechanicsburg, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 21, 2013 in Mercy Memorial Hospital.
She was born March 19, 1928 in Plain City, OH the daughter of Edgar and Fern (Howard) Depp.
Joy retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Mechanicsburg. She was a past board member for Mercy Memorial Hospital and a past council member for the Village of Mechanicsburg. Joy was one of the founders of the African American Genealogy Group of the Miami Valley, where she served as the first treasurer. She was a volunteer for many different organizations and was a model for several clothing stores. Joy enjoyed genealogy, playing cards, gardening, traveling, entertaining and playing golf.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Adolph Bowdry; brother, Gary Depp of California; sister, Janice Hill of Plain City; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Joy is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Gene Oliver Depp and Gerald Edgar Depp; sister, Greta Joan Daniels.
Following Joy’s wishes her body will be cremated and burial will be held at a later date. Services have been entrusted to Skillman, McDonald & Vernon Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg.
