45 years ago I was a first grader at Pine Avenue elementary and this wonderful lady made the biggest impact on me. To this day, I will never forget the lesson she taught but more importantly her care and compassion for every kid. I remember her hugs. She embraced her teaching position and every young life that placed in her classroom. I have such wonderful childhood memories of elementary school and Mrs. Tabern was an amazing part of this. I only wished that I had the opportunity to see her again after so many years but thankful to hear that she lived a long life with her family. Rest In Peace sweet Mrs. Tabern. You are truly a blessing to those who knew you.

So sorry to hear of Kathleen's passing. My deepest sympathy and condolences to her family. Kathleen and I grew up in Piqua when her family (Esther, Jean, Bobbie & Ruthie) lived on Robinson Ave. and remained friends after her family moved to Hill St. in Urbana.

What meaningful words and sentiments are written about Mrs.Tabern and what accomplishments! The very best acomplishment though is her loving family. No one has a greater legacy than that. I met Mrs. Tabern much much later in her life. I may not have known she had a first (beautiful) name. I always called her Grandma Tabern. I am sure she was extremely proud of that name too. To me, "Grandma" encompasses her very essence. Always with us. Always in our hearts.

Mrs. Tabern was beloved by our family. She was the perfect teacher for our son Andy. He struggled with reading in his early years and she was patient with him and he made great strides that year. He went on to become an elementary teacher and he now is the CEO of United Schools Network. He has dedicated his career to improving the educational opportunities of inner city neighborhoods in Columbus Ohio. She was an inspiration to Andy and a wonderful person.
Phil and Jean Forsythe - Jul 7, 2021
The special interest that Kathaleen demonstrated in her first grade classrooms and with the families didn't go unnoticed. The hours that she spent preparing lessons and grading papers were deeply appreciated. The years that she dedicated to teaching met so much to all the children and families' lives that she touched with love during her career. Mrs. Tabern was really a wonderful, beautiful lady with many warm, endearing qualities. And the qualities that made her a very special educator, also made Kathaleen a very special friend. God Bless, Phil and Jean
