Kathy (Lawson) Juarez Brannon 62 of Urbana, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 29, 2009 in Riverside Methodist Hospital Columbus, Ohio surrounded by her family.
She was born January 27, 1947 in Urbana, the daughter of Bill and Kathryn Lawson.
Kathy attended Mechanicsburg School and was a graduate of the Class of 1965. After graduation, she attended Bowling Green State University where she received her degree in International Studies. While attending college, she met and married Mario Juarez, who was also a student there. They were married that summer and moved to Guatemala, Mario’s home, where he was a member of the Guatemalan Symphony Orchestra. He was a very accomplished cellist. Kathy taught school at a Missionary Church for student’s grade 1 thur 12. While there she experienced a terrorizing earthquake that left 22,000 people dead. Later the conditions became a great concern because of the terrorists, so she returned back to Mechanicsburg.
After she was settled back in Ohio, she taught Spanish in the Mechanicsburg and Triad School districts. Later she left the teaching profession and worked at Chase Bank in Columbus where she met a special friend, Jorge Sylva. In 1996, she married Gary Brannon, who survives. After retiring, she and Gary traveled to Hawaii, they toured the Western States accompanied by their granddaughter, Sarah. Kathy’s dream was to visit every one of the 50 states. So, they left home on June 1st and returned back home on June 17th ; but her dream had been fulfilled because she had now been in every state; including Hawaii and Alaska.
Kathy was preceded in death by her mother, last year.
Kathy leaves behind to cherish her memories, husband, Gary, father Bill Lawson; sister, Brenda (Dave) Rice of Springfield; brother, Bill (Cindy) Lawson, New York, nieces, Wendy (Marc) Holt & Dr. Courtney (Dave) Johnson, nephew, John (Nicki) Pemberton, Illinois, great niece, Hillary Dixon, special aunt, Betty (Tom) Peters, step-daughter, Stephanie (Dave) Szalla of Urbana, step-son, Adam Brannon and Angie McKenzie of Urbana, grandchildren, Sarah, Kaitlyn & Trevor Dunham, Ashley, Hayden & Ethan Szalla; Also a special friend, Jorge of Columbus.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 &6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home Mechanicsburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home with Rev. George W. Riddell IV of the Grace Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery Mutual. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the Grace Baptist Academy, 960 Childrens Home Rd. Urbana, Ohio.
