Kathryn Anne (Edwards) Lawson, age 84 of Mechanicsburg went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 12, 2008 in Forest Glen Health Campus, Springfield surrounded by her family.

She was born on December 23, 1923 in Mechanicsburg the daughter of Earl and Caress (Standley) Edwards.

Kathryn attended Mechanicsburg School and was a graduate of the class of 1941. After graduation she worked at the Farmers Bank in Mechanicsburg and was a clerical worker at the International Harvester in Springfield. She also worked in Dayton at Wright Patterson Air Force Base.

On February 2, 1946 she married Bill Lawson. Later on, they enjoyed traveling with their children mainly in the western part of the United States especially Washington where they visited relatives. Florida was also a favorite state, but probably their most memorable vacation was a trip to Alaska in 1963.

Later on when their children were in school, Kathryn enrolled and took classes at Wittenberg University in Springfield. She eventually transferred to Wright State University, where she received her B.S. Degree in 1972.

She taught school at Graham North Elementary in Rosewood, East Elementary in Urbana, Graham South Elementary in St. Paris, and Triad Consolidated School in North Lewisburg. She retired from a profession she thoroughly enjoyed and was delighted in working with the younger students. She felt teaching was truly a worthwhile and rewarding profession.

Kathryn was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mechanicsburg, and State Teacher’s Retirement Association. She was also a member of Caroline Chapter #39 Order of Eastern Star and a former member of the Mother’s Memorial Circle. She enjoyed reading and knitting and had attended knitting classes at the Senior Citizens Center in Urbana.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years Bill Lawson, daughters Kathy (Gary) Brannon of Urbana, Brenda (Dave) Rice of Springfield, son Bill (Cindy) Lawson of Clarence Center, New York, granddaughters Wendy (Marc) Holt of South Vienna, Dr. Courtney (Dave) Johnson of Marysville, grandson John Pemberton of Boling Brook, Illinois, great granddaughter Hillary Dixon of Springfield, a special nephew Ed (Peggy) Foulk of Springfield, sister Betty Smith (Tom) Peters, of Mechanicsburg, nephews Jim (Racille) Smith of Urbana, John (Ann) Smith of Mechanicsburg, niece Robi (Steve) Zirkle of St. Paris plus other nieces and nephews and a sister-in-law Rosa McClure of Arizona.

A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Tuesday, April 15, 2008 in the SKILLMAN MCDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg, A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 in the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Harley Roston officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Mutual. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Kathryn’s memory to Community Mercy Hospice, 1343 N. Fountain Blvd. Springfield, Ohio 45504.
