Kenneth Wilkins, 88, of Cable, passed away on Tuesday, December 09, 2008 in his residence. He was born on May 19, 1920 in Cable, Ohio, the son of Walter L. Wilkins and Maggie Ritter Wilkins and step mother Nila Jones Wilkins.
He enjoyed life to the fullest with family and friends. He also enjoyed bowling at T.P. Lanes in Bellefontaine, and playing a few rounds of golf. However, his favorite sport to watch was girl’s high school softball and the annual college fall classic at North Lewisburg ball parks. He was a graduate of Mingo-North Lewisburg High School. Kenneth was also a lifetime farmer of the Hills of Mingo valley, a lifetime member of the famous Mingo Breakfast Club, former chairman of the Pioneer Rural Electric Board of Directors, and former dispatcher for the North Lewisburg Fire & EMT squads. He was a former Triad High School board member, and a member of Mt. Carmel Friends Church.
He is survived by his two sons, Stanley (Sharon) Wilkins of Springfield and Rodney (Diana) Wilkins of Cable; grandchildren, Julie (BJ) Maddox of Headland, AL, Leslie (Jim) Chapman of West Mansfield, OH, Erica Wilkins, and Adam Wilkins; two step-grandchildren, John Haucke and Alix Payton, and nine great grandchildren; sister, Gertrude Wilkins Roush of Marysville; sister-in-law, Claudette Wilkins of Pine Mountain, GA, and bus loads of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Vashti of 62 years, parents, and sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Charles Leroy; brother, Ernest L. Wilkins; brother-in-law, Dan Roush; sister-in-law, Lucille Williams Reams, and two infant sons.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday, December 12, 2008 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. A funeral service will be held at the Mt. Carmel Friends Church on Saturday, December 13, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Purdue officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
