Lawrence ”Lonnie” Watkins, 85, of Mingo passed away Sunday February 3, 2013 in his home.


He was born July 5, 1927 in Milford Center, the son of James and Mary (Johnson) Watkins.


Lonnie attended the Kennard Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, mushroom hunting and cutting firewood. One of Lonnie’s greatest joys was spending time with his grandchildren.


He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary (Perdue) Watkins; daughters, Penni Smith and Nancy Roberts; sons, Richard Eugene (Mary) Watkins and David Lee Watkins; grandchildren, Mindy (Shaun) Smith, Mandy Smith, Misty (Jason) Wade, Michael (Andrea) Smith, Joe (Donna) Fox, Jeff Fox, Angie (Mike) Horvath, Cody Roberts, Danielle Roberts, Eric Watkins, Jeremy Watkins, Marcie (Charles) Lowery and Stephanie Pack; great grandchildren, Desiree Smith, Katelyn Wade, Asher Wade, Jalynn Smith, Wyatt Smith, Kaiden Carpenter, Monica Smith, Nichole Fox, Nathan Fox, Josie and Jenna Fox, Michael Horvath, Zachary and Conner Horvath, Eric Watkins, Jr., Heather and Rose Watkins and Havyn Charley Rae Lowery; brothers, Harvey (Peg) Watkins, John (Shirley) Watkins and Charles (Ruth Ann) Watkins; sisters, Eva (Charles) Johnson and Josephine (Wesly) Metz; several nieces and nephews; as well as special friend and neighbor, Bob Cauley.


Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Evelyn (George) Markin and Elsie (Marion) Spence; brothers, Roger Watkins, Walter Raymond Watkins, Jim (Dora) Watkins and Jake (Eva) Watkins.


A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, February 7, 2013 in the FRESHWATER, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, North Lewisburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the funeral home with Rev. Stephen Anstine officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Cable. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Robert ”Bob” Cauley, Jason Wade, Jeffrey Watkins, Shaun Smith and Jean Bony.
