Leslie "Gene" Claybaugh, 84, of Urbana, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 in his home.

He was born July 15, 1934 in Dayton, Ohio, the son of Charles Leslie and Lillian Mae (Miller) Claybaugh. Gene was a 1952 graduate of Wilbur Wright High School in Dayton and proudly served his country in the United States Navy Reserves. Gene also graduated from the University of Dayton Technical Institute, where he earned his master's degree in mechanical engineering. He retired in 1994 from Navistar International in Springfield after 20 years of service where he worked as a tool & die maker.

Gene is survived by his wife, Marie "Wheetsie" (North) Claybaugh; his step children, April (John) Burchett, Tena (Pete) Thompson, Jeanette Bush, and Charles Manahan; as well as his numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Marie (Miller) Claybaugh; his son, Michael Claybaugh; his stepson, Bruce Manahan; his son-in-law, Steve Bush; and his sister, Alberta Goodwin.

Memorial services will be held at 6:00 PM on Friday, August 31, 2018 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana with Pastor Jeremy Stout officiating. The family will receive friends for 2 hours prior to the service from 4-6 PM.
