L. Richard Kadel, 88, of Urbana, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2008 in the Alterra Sterling House of Urbana. He was born September 21, 1920 in Springfield, Ohio the son of the late William and Mabel (Rotroff) Kadel.

Mr. Kadel graduated from Olive Branch (now Tecumseh) High School in 1938. He joined the staff at The Peoples Savings Bank in 1953 – after three years at City Loan. In 1958, Mr. Kadel became a member of the Peoples Board of Directors and in 1959, he became General Manager.

He was named President / CEO in 1969 and retained that position until his retirement in 1985. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Peoples Savings Bank until January 2005 and retired from the Board in March 2006.

Mr. Kadel was a 1961 graduate of the Ohio Savings and Loan Academy. He was elected President of the Ohio Savings and Loan League in 1963 and also served on numerous state and national banking committees throughout his career.

Mr. Kadel was a past member of the Urbana Lions Club, a member of the Urbana University Board of Trustees, a former Urbana City Council member and the Urbana Presbyterian Church. He was also a Free Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Janet (Smith) Kadel of Urbana, his children, Nancy (Joe) Dolan of Wauseon, Ohio and Brice (Linda) Kadel of Urbana, grandchildren, Tiffany (Ben) Tanner, David Amiet and Andrew Amiet, great grandchildren, Cody and Bralynn Tanner; a sister-in-law, Virginia Kadel of Cincinnati, Ohio as well as several nieces & nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant son in 1947, grandson, Bradley Louis Cordial in 2002 and his 3 brothers, Ralph, Roger & William.

A gathering of family and friends will held from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2008 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME Urbana, Ohio. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 3, 2008 in the funeral home with the Rev. Dr. Kevin Horrigan officiating. Following the services his body will be cremated and the burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice of Dayton, 3131 S.
