Lewis E. ”Lew” ”Pappy” Snyder, 80 of Mechanicsburg, passed away, Friday, July 27, 2012 in Springfield Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 1, 1932 in Portsmouth, Ohio. Lew served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired from PIE Nationwide as a truck driver. He was a member of the 1st Baptist Church in West Alexandria, Ohio and a member of the Dayton Lodge # 147 F. & A. M. Lew played guitar and enjoyed playing in Church. He was a former Pastor in the 1970’s. Most of all he enjoyed his horses; riding, training, trading or buying.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Vivian (Caudill) Snyder; his children, Lewis Jr. (Sheila) Snyder of Wilmington, Ohio; Debra Callahan of Franklin, NC, Janet Jenkins of Almond, NC, Rebecca (David) Cochran of Bryson City, NC and Tracy (Perry) Jenkins of Robinsville, NC; his grandchildren, Chris, Jared & Joseph Snyder, Travis & Clayton Jenkins, John Snyder, Amanda Webb, and Missy, Jake & Matt Fritts; 18 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great Great Grandchildren; his sister, Alma Coyle of Dayton, as well as several nieces and nephews, including Morgan and Haley Hamby.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Edna (Viars) Snyder; two grandsons, Jeremy and Isaac; his son-in-law, Reese Callahan, his sister, Ruth Holsinger, his brothers, Gordan and Harvey Snyder and his brother-in-law, Jim Coyle.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, July 30, 2012 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 in the funeral home with Rev. Art Profit officiating.
Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
