Lura Lavern Bishop, 85, of Troy, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2015 in her daughters home in Urbana.
She was born May 5, 1930 in New Carlisle, the daughter of the late Bert Matson and Francis Irene (Petcher) Riley.
Lura was a member of the YMCA and AMVETS in Troy, as well as the Eagles in New Carlisle. She was an avid Stanley representative. Lura enjoyed quilting, playing bingo and euchre, gambling, and flower gardening. Her greatest achievement was earning her GED in 1971 and becoming an LPN in 1990 at the age of 60.
She is survived by daughters, Vicki Lynn (Joseph) Auldridge of Urbana, Belinda Diane Carter of Urbana, Bonita Louise (Ted) Carpenter of Troy, Rhonda Kay (Mike) Rose of Springboro, and Teah Marie Bishop of Quincy; her 4 granddaughters; her 6 great grandchildren; her brother, Bert Matson Riley, Jr. of Pace, Florida; and beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Doyle E. Bishop; brother, John Walter Riley; and sisters, Wilda Mae Blevins and Bertha Irene Rice.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. A funeral service will be held at11 a.m. on Wednesday in the funeral home. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in Terre Haute Cemetery.
