Visitation Saturday, June 20, 2015 from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM at Mechanicsburg High School
MacKenzee Rhae “MacK” Hartley, 18, of Mechanicsburg passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015 in OSU Medical Center. She was born February 19, 1997 in Springfield, Ohio, the daughter of Dannie L. and Carrie Ane (Van Hoose) Hartley.
MacK had only begun her journey in accomplishing her dreams, the first of which was high school graduation as she was a member of Mechanicsburg’s Class of 2015. She was planning to attend Clark State in the fall to become a LPN. Her compassion and concern for others was not restricted to humans as she was an avid animal lover. MacK leaves behind her beloved four legged best friends Jake, Havoc and Tillie. She spent countless hours in the field with her cows and was even considering becoming a vet tech in order to help all of God’s creatures.
MacK was a girl known for her contagious smile and acceptance of all. Family reigned supreme to her but shared blood was not a requirement. Her FFA family was high on her priority list where she earned her State FFA degree and placed 8th in the State of Ohio team livestock judging competition. She had family in her basketball and track teams all four years of high school and anyone that spent time around a campfire with her. Her brother, Dylan, was a source of immense pride for MacK as she loved supporting him in his athletic endeavors and being his biggest cheerleader. Carrie and Dannie, her parents, watched in awe as their little girl grew to be such a thoughtful woman often taking care of everyone at home. She became a fabulous cook and helped in any way to ease the load of a very busy family. MacK’s desire to help others did not cease with her last breath. She chose to be a eye and tissue donor and will continue to live on by saving and helping others. The void left by MacK’s early departure will always be felt by those who knew and loved her.
MacK is survived by her parents; brother, Dylan Lee Hartley; paternal grandparents, Dan & Wilma Hartley of Mechanicsburg; maternal grandparents, Michael Van Hoose and Kathryn (Steve) Benton, all of Mechanicsburg; aunts and uncles, Nick & Nikki Hartley, of Mechanicsburg, Joseph (Stephanie) Van Hoose, of Centerville; cousins, Ty and Avery Van Hoose and Colin and August Hartley; special friends, Matt King, Joel Frost, Mayci Powell, Logan Hartman, Jake Wetzel, Ashley Bradley, Jack Wing, Lane Herdman, the Frosty’s Crew as well a host of friends, too many to mention.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2015 at the Mechanicsburg High School with Pastor Mark Hackworth officiating. The family will receive friends from 11-2 prior to the service. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg. The family is requesting everyone come casually dressed. Services are entrusted to SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family, c/o Vernon Funeral Home, 257 W. Main Street, Mechanicsburg, OH 43044 or to the MacK Hartley FFA Memorial Scholarship, c/o Mechanicsburg FFA, 60 High St, Mechanicsburg, OH 43044.
