Margaret L. Burton, 95 of Woodstock passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2011 in her residence.


She was born November 22, 1915 in Chillicothe, Ohio the daughter of Albert and Mayme (Neal) Breinig.


Margaret graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1933; she continued her education at Miami University receiving her teaching degree in 1938. She started her teaching career at Concord High School in Champaign County with assignments of both teaching and coaching girls’ basketball. Next, Margaret spent a few years teaching at various schools throughout Ohio and later retired after many years of teaching business classes at Urbana High School. Margaret was very dedicated to the farm and conservation. She always helped on the farm; whether it was working in the yard, gardening, driving the tractor or bailing hay. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Urbana, the Four Season’s Garden Club and for 10 years she was the treasurer of the Ohio Association of Garden Clubs. During retirement Margaret enjoyed sewing, cooking, playing bridge with her Woodstock friends and traveling for over 25 years with her lifelong friends from Marysville and Kirkpatrick, Ohio. Margaret didn’t hesitate to champion causes that benefited the local community. She was a key advocate for the new post office in Woodstock and also for establishing toll-free calling between the Woodstock area and Urbana. Margaret married Walter M. Burton, December 8, 1945 they spent 59 wonderful years together before his passing in 2004.


She is survived by her niece, Patricia Barron of Columbus and her nephew, Robert (Inger) Barron of Boulder, CO.


She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her twin sister, Elizabeth Barron.
The family thanks long time caregiver Linda Raupp, Margaret’s other caregivers, Loving Care Hospice, and family friends, especially Beverly May, for their help and support.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 in the FRESHWATER, MCDONLD & VERNON Funeral Home, North Lewisburg with Rev. Dr. Kevin Horrigan officiating; the family will receive friends from 2-3 prior. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, North Lewisburg.
