Marietta Shoemaker, 82, of Cable, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning, July 17, 2013 in her home surrounded by her loved ones. She was born September 13, 1930 in Woodstock, to the late Adolph and Faye (Shelpman) Murray.
Marietta graduated in 1948 from Woodstock High School. On June 21, 1949 she married Tracy C. Shoemaker who preceded her in death on November 18, 2001. She was a homemaker for many years of her married life. Marietta was an avid bowler for many years, and enjoyed crocheting, doing crossword puzzles, watching baseball, camping, fishing, and spending time with her children and all of her grandchildren, especially during cookouts throughout her many years. She enjoyed displaying her crocheted products at the Labor Day festival in West Liberty as well as Oktoberfest in Urbana for many years.
Marietta is survived by her daughters, Priscilla Pratt of West Liberty and Joyce (Glenn) Griffin of Kingscreek; her daughter-in-law, Crista Shoemaker of West Liberty; her grandchildren, Todd (Lisa) Pratt of Urbana, Shawn (Amy) Pratt of Illinois, Tracie Shields of Bellefontaine, Chuck (Heather) Griffin of Cable, and Joshua, Carrie, and Jarrod Shoemaker, all of West Liberty; her 12 great-grandchildren; her brother, David (Doris) Murray; her sister, Donna (Jim) Willis; and her numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tracy; her son, Jeff C. Shoemaker; her infant daughter, Karen Sue Shoemaker; and her special aunt, Eunice “Sissy” Wheeland.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 20, 2013 in the FRESHWATER, McDONALD, & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, North Lewisburg, with Pastor Dick Barrett officiating; where the family will receive friends one hour prior. Burial will follow in Woodstock Cemetery.
