Marilyn K. (Schafer) Vermillion, 72, of Urbana, died Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 5:04 p.m. in Mercy Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family. Born in Champaign County on Jan. 21, 1940, she was the oldest daughter of the late Freda Schafer and the late Robert Schafer.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Richard E. Vermillion, whom she married on March 7, 1960 in Greene County, Ohio. She is also survived by three children: Deborah (Randy) Dunham, of Urbana, R. Michael (Brenda) Vermillion, of Urbana, and John (Rhonda) Vermillion, of Cable; a brother, Robert Schafer of Columbus, a sister, Katherine Schafer, of Westerville; seven grandchildren, Ryan Dunham, Rachel Dunham, Molly Dunham, Olivia Dunham, Christian Dunham, Joshua Vermillion and Jacki Vermillion; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
She is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Nancy Argabright.
She cherished participating in the lives of her grandchildren and watching them at academic and athletic events. In addition to watching the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds, Marilyn enjoyed making pressed flower crafts for her family and friends.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, Urbana. Prior to retirement, Marilyn worked for Dr. William B. Williamson in Springfield. She was a graduate of Urbana High School, class of 1958.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2012 in the Vernon Funeral Home, Urbana with Pastor Mike Stewart officiating. Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Following Marilyn’s wishes, her body will be cremated.
