Martha Kerns, 85, of Urbana passed away Saturday, January 15, 2010 in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana.
She was born June 10, 1925 in Newark, Ohio, the daughter of David and Martha (Burnham) Wing.
Martha graduated from the Columbus School for Girls and Wittenburg University. She was a retired school teacher and taught in Mechanicsburg, Urbana and Triad School Districts. Martha was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order. She loved doing things for others.
She is survived by her daughters; Molly Kerns of Urbana and Beth Hitt of Delafield, WI; son, Dr. William (Sharon) Kerns of Boston, MA; grandchildren, Joshua (Sue) Kerns, Joseph Kerns, Heather (Paul) Bouley, Amanda Hitt, Marcus (Rebecca) Hitt, Andrew (Sara) Hitt, Jesse Hitt, Tony (Erica) Smith, Tyler (Amanda) Smith and Ashley (Paul) Rodgers; great grandchildren; Cheyenne Kerns, Ayden, Leland and Jamyn Hitt, Hunter Smith and Jackson Kibler; as well as several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Kerns in 1975; brother, John Wing; brother and sister-in-law, David (Mary) Wing.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 P.M. on Thursday, January 20, 2010 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 A.M. on Friday in the St. Mary Catholic Church, Urbana with Father Greg Konerman officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
