Martha Oelker, age 90, of Urbana passed away peacefully on August 27, 2017. She was born August 14, 1927 to the late Pearl and Hallie (Pullins) Ream in Urbana. She married Jack D. Oelker on August 12, 1950 in West Liberty, Ohio who survives. Other living relatives include her brother Melvin (Gayle) Ream of Monrovia, Indiana and three daughters: Susan (Mark) Bailey of Urbana, Sandra Oelker Eickholt (John) Eickholt of Dublin, Ohio and Carol (Jeff) White of Urbana; grandchildren: Shawn (Meredith) Bailey of Columbus, Ohio, Renae (Brian) Wainwright of Atlanta, Georgia, Amy (Christopher) Louthan of Marietta, Georgia, Jessica Eickholt (Brad) Johnson of Dublin, Ohio, Ashley (Max) Olivine of Monterey, California, Lauren (Doug) Finney of South Charleston, Ohio, Kris Byers and Erica Martin of Tampa, Florida, Molly Eickholt and Jacob Lilly of Columbus, Ohio, Lance (Julie) White of Dana Point, California; as well as ten great grandchildren: Eva and Gwendolyn Bailey, Emily, Macy, and Lily Finney, Katelyn Olivine, Owen Louthan, Hallie Johnson, Frances and Reagan White.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by brother, George Ream and sisters, Thelma (John) Channell and Donna (Calvin) Roberds, both of Urbana.
Martha graduated from Salem (Kingscreek, Ohio) High School in 1945 and worked at Wright Patterson Air Force Base and Champaign Bank in Urbana. She loved the dairy farm she and Jack owned and greatly enjoyed operating the combine. Martha loved music, playing the piano, writing and reciting poetry, and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed tap dancing, crocheting and knitting.
Martha was an exceptional role model and will be remembered for her fun loving, selfless spirit, and love of family who will miss her greatly.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at Vernon Funeral Home in Urbana with Pastor David Brown of Kingscreek United Methodist Church officiating. Visiting hours will be held Friday, September 1 from 6 to 8 PM and prior to the service beginning at 10 AM.
