November 21, 1929 - January 17, 2017
Martin L. Jackson, 87, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, January 17, 2017 in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born November 21, 1929 in Fountain Park, Ohio. On November 11, 1953 he married Naomi (Saunders) Jackson the love of his life, whom preceded him in death. He proudly served his country in the army during the Korean War. He was a member and ordained as a deacon at Auburn Ave. Baptist under Pastor Joseph L. West and presently a watch care member of Jerusalem 2nd Baptist Church. In his early years he was a custodian and bus driver for the Urbana City Schools. He retired from WPAFB as a plumber and steam fitter after 30 years of service.
Martin is survived by his daughters, Marcie L. (Carl) Vactor, Melanie K. (Richard Draher) Wilson, and Mona R. (Kevin) White; his sons, William R. (Clara LeFever) Moore and Martin C. (Cynthia Alexander) Jackson; his 10 grandchildren; his 20 great-grandchildren his brother, David Jackson his sister-in-laws, Geraldine Mitchell and Rovella Jackson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gabe and Rachel (Manuel) Jackson; his beloved wife Naomi (Saunders) Jackson; several siblings, nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-7 pm on Friday, January 20, 2017 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2017 in the Jerusalem 2nd Baptist Church with Pastor Michael Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
