Mary Alexander Poland, 92, of Urbana and formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2018 in Urbana Health and Rehab Center.
She was born March 2, 1926 in Mechanicsburg, the daughter of John Franklin Alexander and Eva Moody Alexander. Mary was a 1944 Graduate of Mechanicsburg High School and attended Clark State University. She served as house mother for 19 years with Chi Omega at Wittenberg University and retired from Grimes Manufacturing. Mary was a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church, Womens Fire Department Auxiliary and the Mothers Memorial Circle, as well as being a 50 year member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed going to the movies, reading, and dancing especially dancing with her Dance Orchestra group. She fondly remembered playing and dancing at Bill & Garnet Westfalls house on the weekends. Marys family and grandchildren were the light of her life. She loved attending all of their games and watching their cheer recitals. The youngest kids always put a smile on her face and made her laugh. Mary will be sadly missed by all who had the opportunity to know and love her.
Mary is survived by her daughters, Kellie (Jeff) Pelfrey and Debbie (Bill) Hodge; her grandchildren, Kris (Jenny) Hodge, J (Rachel) Hodge, Andy (Staci) Poland, Kim Poland (Marvin Nott), Corey Pelfrey, Joey (Brittney) Pelfrey and Matt (Michelle) Pelfrey; her great grandchildren, Payton & Ethan Hodge, Braden & Elaina Hodge, Lane & Lexi Poland, Mason Poland, Hunter Massie, Koda & Bailey Pelfrey and Maddie Pelfrey; her great-great granddaughter, Nathalee Wilhelm; and her numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother, Jenny Alexander; her son, Roger Poland; her sister, Margaret Linville; and her brother-in-law, Avery Linville.
Services are entrusted to SKILLMAN, McDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg and will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family would like to thank the staff of Urbana Health & Rehabilitation and Crossroads Hospice for their care, kindness and love. There is also a special Thank You to Dr. Timothy Hickerson and staff as Mary thought the world of you. Finally, thank you to Mercy Wound Care Center The Wednesday morning ladies were awesome!
