Mary Ann Van Horn (Stickley), 81, of Urbana, went to be with the Lord, with her family by her side on Wednesday, May 30, 2018. Mary Ann was born in Westville, Ohio to the late Kenneth and Loretta (Ward) Stickley. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Richard A. Van Horn. Mary Ann was a 1954 graduate of Westville High School where she was the class valedictorian. She was the loving and supportive mother of seven children and a dedicated, loving wife. She tirelessly supported her family and never missed a game, concert, play, graduation, or other milestone in their lives. Mary Ann was the woman who enabled her husband's accomplishments. She was an avid booster of Graham Local and Highland Local schools and was the de facto secretary and administrator of the MORCO water company startup. She was a life long member of the Westville United Methodist Church and a regular attendee with family at First Baptist Church Saint Paris in recent years. She steadfastly kept family first through life's challenges, and spent her later years on the family farm, taking every opportunity to be involved in the lives of her children, nineteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Mary Ann is survived by seven children and their families: Kimberly VanHorn Jones of Urbana, Ohio (Aaron, Austin and Alexandra); Kathy (Randy) Weaver of Marengo, Ohio (Brock [Allison], Kirby [James], and Chase [Tory Tobin]); Kris (Roberto) Rojas of Harvard, Massachusetts (Olivia [Erik Bogard], Diego, Isabel, and Lorenzo); Kurt (Joanne) Van Horn of Mandeville, Louisiana (Clara, Nathaniel and Hannah), Kent (Jennifer McMillin) Van Horn of La Jolla, California (Amaya and Taylor), Karyl (Rusty) Strader of Urbana, Ohio (Colby, Cooper and Caden), and Kelly (Neil) Ziegler of Columbus, Ohio (Max). She is also survived by her brother Dan (Janet) Stickley, sister Cynthia (the late Don Pahl) Stickley, sister-in-law Mary Jane (Sayre) Stickley, sister-in-law Frances Burcham, four great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family. Mary Ann was also preceded in death by her brother S. Thomas Stickley.
Mary Ann's family is so very grateful for Linda Yocom for the care, comfort, and companionship she provided, and for Hospice of Dayton, especially nurse Katie, for their excellent care and guidance.
Funeral services will be held at 3:30 PM on Saturday, June 2, 2018 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana with Pastor Jeremy Spence officiating. The family will receive friends for 2 hours prior to the service from 1:30-3:30 PM. Burial will follow in Rosedale Cemetery, Conover.
