Mary (Roseberry) Culp, 89, was born December 30, 1926, on a farm in Goshen Township, Champaign County, Ohio, the third child of Wade F. and Lottie (Hunt) Roseberry. She moved to town with her family in 1938, and lived on Walnut Street until her marriage.
She was a graduate of Mechanicsburg Exempted Village Schools, class of 1944. Mary attended Moore’s Business College in Urbana, Ohio, and secured an office position at Farm Management, Irwin, Ohio and continued in that capacity until 1950.
She was married June 26, 1949 to Lewis E. “Goog” Culp, and resided in their family home on East Sandusky Street. They are the parents of three children, Bruce Edward, Patricia Ann, and William Lewis. Bruce is married to Ila Jane Tennyson of Portsmouth, Ohio, Patty to Thomas R. Wilson of Springfield, Ohio, and Bill to Laura of West Jefferson, Ohio. They have two grandchildren, Maria Elizabeth, stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Christopher Allen Wilson of Springfield. They have twin great grandsons, Wyatt Thomas and Virgil Frederick Wilson. Mary is also survived by her good friend and neighbor, Barb Edwards and her several nieces and nephews.
She was a member of the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church where she had served as church treasurer for six years, treasurer of the United Methodist Women, and various church committees including Bible school teacher, audit committee member, and as church historian. She received the 4-H Silver Clover Award in recognition of five years of 4-H Club Advisor from the Cooperative Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture and The Ohio State University in 1969.
She served 16 years as village clerk and village councils. In 1976, Mary received the American Legion Certificate of Participation in appreciation of and recognition for her active participation in her outstanding work for the Village. Mary was deeply honored in 1990 when she received the Mechanicsburg Lion’s Club Distinguished Citizen Award.
Mary is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lewis E. “Goog” Culp; her grandson, Timothy Edward Culp; and her sister, Helen (Gene) Posey.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5-8 PM on Friday, July 8, 2016 in the SKILLMAN, McDONALD, & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. A funeral service to celebrate Mary’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 9, 2016 in the Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church, 42 N. Main St., Mechanicsburg, Ohio 43044 with Pastor Mimi Ault officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
