Hunter, Mary Jane (Young) went to be with our Lord and Savior and her beloved husband of 57 years on December 10, 2008. Mary Jane was born on July 17, 1930 in Cable, Ohio the daughter of Paul and Mabel (Shultz) Young. She graduated from Cable High School Class of 1948 and was married later that year on her birthday to Vincent W. Hunter of Mechanicsburg. They spent the next ten years in Mechanicsburg farming and starting a family.

In 1959 they moved with their children, Bill & Barbara to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida where Vincent worked at First Federal Savings & Loan for the next 20 years. Mary Jane spent 18 years working in the school cafeteria and also as a church soloist and Welcome Wagon hostess.

Mary Jane and Vincent retired and returned to the family farm in Mechanicsburg in 1979.

Mary Jane was an excellent seamstress. She refinished and recovered furniture and made many beautiful clothes for her children and grandchildren. She was a talented singer and pianist and wrote dozens of Christian compositions and arranged some of them for choirs. With Vincent’s help, she planted beautiful trees, shrubs and flowers at her home and at the homes of her children. The bright and joyful spirits will be sadly missed.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Bill Hunter of Urbana and Barbara (George) Ward of Mechanicsburg; grandchildren, Sarah (Brian) Terrell of Columbus, Jason Hunter Ward of Cincinnati, Laura (Gary) Weaver; great grandchildren, Kaylee, Vincent and Adam Weaver of Mechanicsburg; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Neal Johnston of Mt. Victory; nephew and niece Bob (Judy) Paintee of Bellefontaine; cousins, Joanne Barger of New Carlisle and Warren and Carmilla Shultz of Boynton Beach, Florida, Phyllis (Chuck) Tight and family of California, Rev. Cheryl Gaver of Torronto, Canada, life long friend Lois Adams of Urbana and a host of other relatives and friends she loved dearly.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Young and Mable (Young) Barger and her husband, Vincent W. Hunter.

The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staffs of The OSU James Cancer Center, The Riverside Hospital, The Springfield Regional Medical Center, Community Mercy Home Care and Hospice, private caregivers, Sharma Jenkins, Christina Gwyn and Nancy Brown for the excellent care they gave mother during her last months; thanks also to Dave and Tammy Vernon and Randy Runkle (Vernon Funeral Home, Inc). for all of their help.

A Memorial Service will be held in Mary Jane’s honor on Saturday, December 20, 2008, 1:00 p.m. at the Hunter house, 129 South Main Street, Mechanicsburg. Pastor Rick Claus officiating. Private burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery in Mechanicsburg.
