Mary C. Nance, age 99 was born in Champaign County on September 23, 1914 passed away, Wednesday, February 12, 2014.


She was the daughter of the late Emery and Cora (Bishop) Wagner.


She married Raymond W. Nance, January 25, 1942 and he died July 9, 1999. She also is preceded in death by her three brothers, Harold, Ronald and Charles Wagner and her sister, Betty (Wagner) Markin


Survivors include two children, Janice (Max) Coates of North Lewisburg and John (Carol Ann) Nance of Woodstock; two grandchildren, Thomas William Nance of New York City and John Michael Nance of Woodstock and many nieces, nephews and cousins.


Mary graduated from Kingscreek High School and after graduation she worked at the Velvet Ice Cream store in Urbana. She enjoyed gardening, her chickens and baking ‘melt in your mouth pies’. Mary was involved with the Woodstock Community Church and the Women’s Alliance for many years. She was a former member of Portia Chapter, a former sewing 4-H Advisor, also a long time member of the Sunrise Grange and Farm Bureau. She loved her monthly canasta club meetings with her friends.


Mary had a kind and unassuming personality. She was a farmer alongside with her husband and a homemaker who loved taking care of her family and will be deeply missed.


The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at the Sterling House in Urbana for their exceptional care.


Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 in the FRESHWATER, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, North Lewisburg with Pastor Karen Montgomery officiating. The family will receive friends from 12-2 prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Union Township Milford Center Cemetery.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Mercy Hospice, 444 W. Harding Rd., Springfield, Ohio 45504, Woodstock Church Restoration, P.O. Box 202, Woodstock, Ohio 43084 or to the donor’s favorite charity.

Sorry for your loss and my prayers are with you during this time. I enjoyed seeing your Mom and Dad at the Bishop reunions and when I’m at the cemetery in Milford Center to visit Mom, I always walk over to check on Raymond.
