April 24, 1946 - January 21, 2017
Mary Magdalene “Maggie” Risen, 70 of Urbana became our little Angel January 21, 2017 surrounded by much love in the comfort of her home.
Mom, Maggie, Monie for all that knew her.
Mom-Single mother of four ornery children with the strength & courage of any two parents.
Maggie-As her sister’s and best friends knew her.
Monie-The name was given by her first of many grandchildren. As years went by all that loved and knew her, knew her as Monie.
She loved her babies more than words themselves. Every moment with them was priceless like the last. Monie not only defied the odds of stage 4 Glioblastoma, she practically beat them.
She retired from Ultra-Met with over 30 years of service. This is where she met her late husband Wiley T Risen of 42 years.
Monie enjoyed her flea markets, yard sales and most of all her back yard flower garden. She loved her hummers & red birds, the squirrels and sometimes the cat! (she really didn’t like cats) “For Sure, For Real.”
She is survived by her children, Cheryl (Mark) Rinehart, Greg (Lisa) Van Voorhis, Lora Cushman and Chris Van Voorhis.
Her grandchildren, Tylor Lough, Alli (Michael) Stratton, Taylor Bond, Misty Rinehart, Betsy (Justin) Stokes, Sara Van Voorhis, Payton Whitman, Megan (Zach) Bostick, Matthew, Samantha and Drew Van Voorhis, Elizabeth Risen and Emmaline (Alex) Burnett.
Monie’s great-grand babies she fought so hard for, Alec, Jett, Jaylie, Harper, Joie, Preslee, Kinslee, Bentlee, Ava, Huck, Gracie, Zander and Zane. Her sisters Doris (the late Ralph) Stradling, Peggy (Mike) Monteith, Bonnie(Charles)Reed and brother Ralph (Nancy) Hannah and lifelong friend Mary Purgit.
She is preceded in death by her parents Gladys and Lonnie Hannah; siblings Lonnie, Robert and George Hannah, Jenny Huber, Fay Stradling, Bertha Church and Dorthy Peck and granddaughter Emily Van Voorhis, along with special friends Kathy Nott and Helen Violet.
