Mary (Ford) Wing, 76, of Mechanicsburg lost her courageous battle with cancer on Saturday, May 10 at Hearth and Home in Urbana, Ohio. She was born on May 4, 1932 in Plain City, the daughter of Walter and Ruth (Andrews) Ford.
Mary was a graduate of Plain City High School class of 1951. She retired from Ranco Controls in Plain City as an inspector with 33 years of service. She was a member of Church of Our Savior Episcopal Church and served many years on their vestry. Mary was a 20 year member of the Caroline Chapter #39, Eastern Star of Mechanicsburg. She joined the Cloverleaf Square Dance Club in 1996 and danced mostly the lead part up until just 5 months ago. She attended numerous National and State square dance conventions. Mary was also a member of the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) where she crocheted afghans, hats, and scarves for the needy. She was also involved in Sunshine Dancers of Urbana, which is a part of the RSVP program and entertains at area nursing facilities. She was a member of the Mechanicsburg Active Citizens for many years helping to serve lunch to area seniors.
Mary was an avid gardener and bird enthusiast spending many hours outdoors in her garden. She loved to crochet, work crossword puzzles, read, and spend holidays with her family in state parks in Ohio and West Virginia.
She is survived by one son, William (Shelly) Wears of Springfield, Missouri; and two step-daughters, Sharon Wing (Ben) Frey of Bunker Hill, West Virginia, and Lisa Wing (Robert) Kavanaugh of Plain City; 11 grandchildren; Bill (Elada) Wears, Michael Wears, Charles Jay Wears, Rebecca Frey (Andrew) Curtis, Matthew (Jacqueline) Frey, Christopher Frey, Katie Frey, Erik Kavanaugh, Megan Hilbert, Aaron Hilbert and Lauren Hilbert; 8 great grandchildren; brothers Gerald, Marvin, Wayne and Charles Ford; sisters, Wanda Jarvis, Wilma Blythe, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, David D. Wing; sisters, Luella Greenler, Linda Vinson; and brother in law, John C. Wing.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 pm on Wednesday, May 14, in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg. Eastern Star services will be held following the visitation. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Thursday, May 15, in the Episcopal Church of Our Savior, Mechanicsburg with Father Tim West officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
