Matthew Paul “Matt” Calland, 19, of Urbana, passed away, Saturday, December 19, 2009 as a result of a tragic automobile accident.
He was born August 12, 1990, the son of Paul and Joyce (Comer) Calland.
Matt was a 2008 graduate of Graham High School and was currently attending The Ohio State University. He loved and enjoyed life, his family and friends. Matt was an avid OSU fan. He was a member of the Concord United Methodist Church, a ten year 4-H member, 4-H camp counselor, FFA member and a Junior Fair Board member. Matt was a partner with his father in Calland Farms & Trucking. He enjoyed playing football, baseball, snow mobiling and snow boarding. He will be greatly missed.
Matt is survived by his parents; his sister, Macy Lynn; grandparents, Betty Calland of St. Paris, Steven and Sharon (Fultz) Comer of Urbana; paternal great grandmother, Leona Hild of Urbana, maternal great grandmother, Roberta Comer of St. Paris; aunts and uncles, Kelly (Shaffner) and John Warman of Terre Haute, Jenny (Calland) and Ian Thompson of South Charleston, and Kim(Calland) and Doug Joos of South Charleston; cousins, Grace Warman, Brooke, Sydney and Jenna Gram, Tray Thompson, Evan and Nicholas Joos, Chris, Teresa (Fultz) and Tyler Barr; as well as numerous friends.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Garr Calland.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-8 P.M. on Tuesday, December 22, 2009 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 in the Graham Middle School with the Rev. Wayne Engle officiating. Burial will follow in the Rosedale Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be Josh Lightner, Derek Zirkle, Ryan Hurst, Garrett Zook, Zach Davis, Evan Joos, Josh Pickering, Zach Thomusseit and Tyler Barr.
Memorial contributions may be made in Matt’s honor to the Graham Athletic Boosters or to the Champaign County Fair.
