Max Aaron Shirk (93) husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather left this earth July 4, 2012.
He was born March 28, 1919 in Peoria, Ohio, to Clarence and Glenna (Stanford) Shirk. He graduated from Cable High School in 1937. He served his country in the Army being stationed in Germany during WWII, discharged in Dec. 1945. He married Jennie Hurd Shirk on June 21, 1941 and for 71 years she was the love of his life and survives him. He is survived by his daughter Jennie White and her husband, Barney, his son, Max Aaron Shirk Jr. and wife Cathy; his grandchildren, Peter (Sherry) White, Amy White O’Connor, and Lacy (Mark) Gerken, Mindy Hreben, Joseph Shirk, Kimberly Shirk, and Aaron Shirk, 8 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; including a special nephew, Robert Hurd. He is preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Joe and Bessie (Linaweaver) Hurd and his brothers, Roy, Charles and Clarence Shirk.
Max farmed until 1967 and then worked at Navistar until his retirement in 1985. He believed in ”work first than play”. He loved to dance, play cards, woodworking, horseshoes and mowing Cable Hill Farm. He was a quiet man with a great sense of humor! He was active in the Moose, VFW, American Legion, AMVETS, Elks and Eagles. He and Jennie spent their winters in Okeechobee, FL until 2009 when his health prevented them from making the trip. He leaves behind many dear friends of which gave him years of fun and laughter. He loved his family and they will long remember his many ”life lessons” and good time and great joy they had with him throughout his long life. Max will be greatly missed!
A memorial service to celebrate Max’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at Cable Hill Farm, 5005 Bowers Rd., Cable, Ohio with Paul Smith officiating. Services are entrusted to VERNON FUNERAL HOME where condolences may be expressed to the family at www.vernonfh.com.
