Melanie S. Casey, 44, of Mechanicsburg passed away Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus.
Melanie was born August 29, 1966 in Galion, OH the daughter of Jack B. and Janice E. (King) Shuck.
Melanie was a 1985 graduate of Galion High School, where she may be best remembered for standing on her head as a drummer with the marching band and singing in choir. She continued her education at Hocking College where she received her associate’s degree, and later received her bachelor’s degree at Urbana University. Melanie started her 17 year career with the Department of Corrections at Mansfield Correctional Institution and was currently the Assistant Healthcare Administrator for the Ohio Reformatory for Women in Marysville. She was a member of the Marysville Moose Lodge #1651 and the Mechanicsburg Eagles Aries #3974. Melanie was named the Sunshine Girl by her father, which proved to be fitting as she conquered many hearts with her smile and cheerful attitude. She lived a fun-filled life with hardly a dull moment as she was know to jump from planes, ride her motorcycle, sing karaoke, antagonize Ohio State fans and loved to dance and play cards with friends and family.
She is survived by her mother, Janice Shuck of Galion, her husband, Allan Casey, whom she married, November 13, 1994, her children, Eric Casey of Mechanicsburg, Aaron Starr (fiancé Jenna Lilly) of Ashland, Matt Starr of Crestline, and Michelle Hurst (Jay Dee) of Cable, her grandchildren, Logan and Taylor “Tater” Hurst; her sister Mimsy Shuck of Dublin, her brother Jack B. (Jill) Shuck II of Galion, niece Amanda (Gordon) Hagen of Greensboro, NC and nephew J.B. Shuck of Galion; brother-in-laws & sister-in-laws, Dolores Browder, Charles (Vera) Casey, Donna Akers, Dean (Thelma) Casey all of Mechanicsburg, Judy (Tracy) Brown of Urbana, Fred (June) Cantrell of Las Vegas, NV, Robert (Chris) Cantrell of Palm Harbor, FL; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Melanie is preceded in death by her father, Jack who died, December 26, 1996.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday January 7, 2011 at the Mechanicsburg Christian Fellowship Church; as well as from 10-12 noon on Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the church. Funeral Services to Celebrate Melanie’s life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at the church with Pastor Linden Good presiding. Graveside service will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
