Merle William “Ed” Edwards, 93, of Urbana passed away Saturday, February 13, 2010 in his residence.
He was born January 17, 1917 in Antrim County, Michigan the son of John and Loretta (Newell) Edwards.
Ed grew up in the Wheelersburg, OH area. He spent the majority of his life in the restaurant business. Ed is remembered mostly from Ed’s White House Restaurant of which he was the owner and operator. He was a member of 1st Baptist Church in Urbana and loved reading his Bible. He was a member of Harmony Lodge #8 F & A M, Urbana Senior Center and Gideon International. Ed enjoyed his garden, cooking and putting jigsaw puzzles together. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter Connie (Doug) Clark of Raleigh, NC; son Gary (Libby) Edwards of Cable, OH; grandchildren Shannan (Rhett) Morris of Columbus, OH, Holly (Bill) Manganaro of Holly Springs, NC, Zak Edwards of St. Paris, OH, Torre (Captain Ian) Edgerly of Fort Bragg, NC and; five great grandchildren and ten nieces & nephews; his brother Jimmie Edwards of Pickerington, OH; his sister Myrtle Hammas of Ashland, KY.
He is preceded in death by his wife Doris (Spain) Edwards; daughter LaRetta Edwards; his parents; brothers Lawrence, Aura and Carl Edwards; sisters Alma Winebrenner, Dorothy Bennet and Lois Caulley and his special friend Louise Rudolph.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at 4 – 7 p. m on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010 in the funeral home with the Rev. Brian Wonn officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Dale Cemetery in Urbana.
