Nancy Rosalie (Stapleton) Bollenbacher, 72, of Urbana passed away Monday, November 29, 2010 after a long battle with cancer in her home surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born January 1, 1938 a daughter of Robert W. and Maybelle (Detwiler) Stapleton in Champaign County, Ohio.
She was a 1955 graduate of Salem Local High School in Kingscreek. Except for 17 years right after high school, when she lived and worked in California and Arizona, Nancy Rosalie was a resident of Champaign County.
She was a life time member of the Kingscreek United Methodist Church and served the church in different capacities through the years. Nancy was also a member of the Kings Klowns Ministry for 10 years.
Nancy retired in 2001 after working for the county auditor’s office for 24 years. She was a member of PERI Champaign County Chapter and also a member of Delta Theta Tau Soroity, Alpha Zeta – Zeta Chapter. In retirement she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John E. Bollenbacher, an infant step grandson, David Bollenbacher; sister Anna Mary and brothers, William “Billy” and David Stapleton.
She is survived by her very special friend / companion, Roger A. Lehmer of Urbana; brother, Robert A. (Judy) Stapleton of Springfield; brother in-law, James Young of Urbana; step children, Richard (Lois) Bollenbacher of Rockford, Ohio, Judy (Don) Warden of Celina, Ohio, James Bollenbacher; Roger’s children, Honore (Josh) /Stratton of Dayton, Spencer (Holly) Lehmer of Springfield and Denny Lehmer of CA; step grandchildren, Steve (Ryanne) Bollenbacher of Van Wert, Brenda (Josh) Castle of Convoy, Mike (Carie) Forlow and Nicole (Ted) Dicke all of Celina, Kassie Bollenbacher of Wilshire and Jamie Bollenbacher of Columbus; step great grandchildren, Kendall & Luke Bollenbacher, Dalton, Katelyn & Camren Castle, Bradyn Dicke and Dylan Forlow.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. on Friday, December 3, 2010 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Kingscreek United Methodist Church with Pastor David Brown officiating. Graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Mercer Memorial Garden, Celina, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Nancy’s memory to Kingscreek United Methodist Church, Champaign County or American Cancer Society or PAWS Animal Shelter.
