Patrick Joseph Shamrock Fitzmaurice "Rick" Epping, 61, of Mingo, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 18, 2018 in his home.
He was born June 29, 1956 in Dayton, Ohio. Rick was a 1977 graduate of Triad High School and was employed at Honda of America, from which he was excited to retire in a few weeks. He was passionate about playing his guitar as well as writing songs & singing, and spent nearly 20 years playing music with his son, Donny. Rick was adventurous and was always trying new things. He was an outdoorsman who thoroughly enjoyed camping, kayaking and hiking, especially in the Great Smoky Mountains. Rick spent lots of time working in his yard and gardening. He was an expert in taekwondo and earned numerous belts. In his younger days, he was an avid bodybuilder and was always especially proud of his Irish heritage. He never met a stranger and was always sharing stories of his adventures with anyone who would listen. Rick will be sadly missed by all who had the opportunity to know and love him.
He is survived by his mother, Gwen (Fitzmaurice) Epping; his son, Donny Epping; his granddaughter, Coraline Epping; his girlfriend, Connie Melms; his siblings, Sharon (Bob) Burnett, Donna (William) Boitnott, Karen (Howard) Radford, and Bill (Jennie) Epping; Donny's mother, Elizabeth Byrd and Donny's brother, Carlos Byrd; his countless nieces and nephews, and many friends.
Rick is preceded in death by his father, Donald Joseph Epping.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-5 PM on Sunday, June 24, 2018 in the FRESHWATER, McDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, North Lewisburg. Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 25, 2018 in the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, North Lewisburg, with Father Larry Gearhart officiating.
