Philip E. Kauffman, 89, of Urbana, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015 in his home.
He was born July 2, 1925 in Champaign County, the son of Ralph and Eva (Cooper) Kauffman.
Philip was a 1943 graduate of Westville High School. In 1944, Philip married his first grade sweetheart, Ruby Kite. For many years, Philip worked as a farmer. He retired as a District Sales Manager for Lynks Seeds, a division of Dow-Elanco. He was a member of the Westville United Methodist Church since 1944, where he held various offices. Philip was involved in the Central Ohio Emmaus Community since 1989 and served on the board in several positions. He was a member of Magrew Lodge #433 Knights of Pythias since 1943 and served as a Mad River Township Trustee for 20 years.
Philip is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Ruby (Kite) Kauffman; daughter, Patricia Van Hoose of Columbus; son, Dennis (Barbara) Kauffman of St. Paris; grandchildren, Matthew and Nathan Kauffman both of Columbus, Alisha (Brian) Kulich of Sonoma, CA, Joshua Grieser of Springfield, and Bryan Grieser of Columbus; brother, Fred (Nancy) Kauffman of Springfield; brother-in-law, Eugene Elsner of Fletcher; as well as several nieces and nephews. was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Janet Elsner.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the Westville United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Myrtle Tree Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Nathan Kauffman, Josh Grieser, Bryan Grieser, Tim Rose, Jerry Kauffman, Philip Hill, and Dean Kite. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Kauffman, Lee Collins, Lewis Terry, and Willard Howell.

I was very sad to hear of Phil’s passing. I will always remember the fun times spent with his family and him. My prayers and love are with you all.
