Phyllis A. (Cordell) Booth, 84, of Springfield and formerly of Mechanicsburg and Urbana, expired Wednesday, June 18, 2014 at 2:33 PM in Springfield Regional Medical Center.
Phyllis was born April 8, 1930 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio to Frank and Anna (White) Cordell. She graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1949 and spent several years working at Heartland of Urbana and the Caring Kitchen. Phyllis was the president of the St. Paul AME Church Missionary Society for over 20 years and is the only 2 time chapter mother of the FHA in the history of Mechanicsburg.
She is survived by her four children, Carlotta (Chrys) Shelton, John (Maria) Booth, Joseph (Jowana) Booth and Shari Booth; the white sheep of the family, Shelly Wears Keeler; 15 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 5 great, great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; 1 sister, Charlotte R. (Cordell) Walker and sister-in-law, Pauline Cordell. All the above children were equally important to Phyllis. She also had many dear friends including Doris Rogan, Idella Adams, Peggy Shannon, Dixie Martin and too many others to name. Phyllis never met a stranger.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Addison and Amanda White, her parents, brothers, Robert (Christina) Cordell, John (Thelma) Cordell, sister; Martha Lou (Carl) Scott. Phyllis will be missed by all who knew her.
Funeral service will be held at 1 PM on Monday, June 23, 2014 in SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home with Pastor Ray Harper officiating. The family will receive friends from 11 AM – 1 PM. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
