Randy Scott Smith, 50, of Urbana, lost his 3 ½ year battle with cancer Wednesday, October 6, 2010 in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana surrounded by his loving family.


He was born August 4, 1960 in Urbana, OH.


Randy was a 1978 graduate of Urbana High School. He retired in May from Desmond-Stephens. Randy was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed golfing; his favorite golfer was Phil Mickelson. The most important thing to Randy was his faith in God and his family.


He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Debbie (Kennedy) Smith; his parents, Otis (Dorothy) Smith of Urbana and Carol (Dave) Mount; Daughter, Jennifer Smith of Columbus; son, Ryan Smith stationed in Misawa, Japan; brothers, Brian Smith of St. Paris and Tony Smith of Springfield; sister, Cindy Smith of Urbana; grandparents, Howard and Mary Kay Heck of Urbana; mother-in-law, Luella Kennedy of Urbana; brother-in-law, Norman (Lori) Kennedy, Jr. of Cable; sister-in-law, Tammy (Sam) Roberts of Urbana; grandmother-in-law, Fern Cummins of Urbana; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; as well as numerous friends.


Randy is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Howard Smith; maternal grandmother, Mildred Petty; sister, Sonja Parker and father-in-law, Norman Kennedy, Sr.


A gathering of family and friends will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, October 10, 2010 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday in the Mt. Carmel Friends Church in Cable with Pastor Michael Will officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Smith, Tony Smith, Norman Kennedy, Jr., Sam Roberts, Ron Riley and Tony Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Emerson and Danny Parker.
