Ray Davis, 82 of Mechanicsburg passed away on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in his home surrounded by family.
Born February 18, 1936 in Johnson County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late William and Amanda Stambaugh Davis.
Ray was a member of Masonic Lodge #113, the American Legion #238 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3974.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Helen Grace McKenzie Davis and four brothers: Arnold Davis, Laney Davis, James Miller Davis and Willie Jay Davis, and three sisters: May Davis, Ola Schief and Gladys Davis.
Survivors include a son, Ken Davis of Mechanicsburg and two daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl (Dick) Barger of Urbana and Susan (Keith) Holland of Mechanicsburg, grandchildren, Chelsey Holland, Joshua (Jessica) Barger and Emily (Jeremy) Bishop. Also surviving are four great grandchildren, Layne and Reese Barger and Mallory and Rose Bishop. His three sisters Jane Wells, Doris Travis and Roberta (Eugene) Hutchison all of Lexington, Kentucky and brother Walter (Flora) Davis of Mutual, Ohio. Along with several nieces and nephews.
Ray was born and raised in Kerz, Kentucky, moving to Ohio at the age of 17 to begin work in the construction field. He married Helen McKenzie in 1956 and settled in the Mechanicsburg area where they raised 3 children.
Ray had a lifetime career in the construction business, building several hundred buildings, pole barns and grain bins.
Early in his career he was Construction Foreman/Superintendent for the Ray Crain Construction Company overseeing job sites in Texas, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky and Ohio. Later, he and his wife started the R&H Davis Construction Company that operated locally for 23 years servicing farmers and businesses primarily in Champaign, Clark and Madison county areas. For many years Ray sponsored and coached a local girls' softball team. After retiring from the construction business Ray and Helen bought and sold antiques for several years, operating Towne Hall Antiques in Mutual, Ohio.
Per Ray's wishes there will be a private family service. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, in Mutual Ohio.
Services are entrusted to SKILLMAN, McDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, in Mechanicsburg, Ohio.
