Regina L. Cheek, a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and best friend went up to meet her maker, Our Lord Jesus Christ on August 31, 2008, very peacefully in her sleep.
She was born September 9, 1952 in Urbana the daughter of William Lawrence and Freda Jane (Snyder) Purgit.
Regina graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1970. Regina went on to further her education and received her Registered Nursing Degree from Clark State in Springfield.
On May of 1971, Regina met John Cheek; he was her soul mate. They were married on August 26, 1972 and they never left each other’s side; John passed just one month ago, John and Regina are now together forever.
Regina enjoyed collecting family photos. She loved to entertain; whether it was baby showers or Christmas dinner Regina loved planning and taking care of the occasion. She was a member of the Eastern Star and participated in card club.
She and John loved to travel with their friends.
She cherished her time with her family and friends and will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her mother, Freda of Mechanicsburg, her children, who she adored and cherished, her daughter, Mitzi (Jeff) Jones of Mechanicsburg, her sons, John Mitchell “Mitch” (Amy) Cheek of Mechanicsburg and Nicholas (Katie) Cheek of Urbana; her loving grandchildren Timothy Cheek, Natasha Cheek, Kyle Jones, Lyndsey Cheek, Caitlyn Cheek and Emma K. Jones, her great granddaughter, Aynslee Cheek; her brother, Daniel E. (Pam) Purgit of Mechanicsburg, her sisters, Kim (Mike) Martin of Woodstock, Jackie Purgit (Bill Fornof) of Mechanicsburg and Jessie “Kitten” Haynes of Mechanicsburg;
her brother-in-laws, William (Connie) Phillips of Washington Court House, Frank Phillips of Katy, TX and Edward (Sharon) Phillips; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins of several generations .
She is preceded in death by her father, William “Larry” Purgit, her sister, Candice Herron and her husband, who preceded her on July 31, 2008, John Cheek.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2008 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Mechanicsburg; where funeral services will follow at 6:00 p.m. with Pastor Sarah Massie officiating. Burial will be held at the family convenience.
