The Lord Jesus took Richard “Bud” Copas home to Heaven to spend eternity with him on Tuesday, November 9, 2010.


He was born March 10, 1956 in Urbana, Ohio.


Bud was an avid fan of all forms of “Horsepower” and loved the smell of methanol in the mornings. He loved being a 4-H Advisor for his 4-H club Team Horse. Bud also loved his friends from Urbana Paper Mill, his small group, his church (Haven Community Church in Marysville) his neighbors, all his racing buddies and especially his grandchildren.


He is survived by wife of 18 years, Deb (Louden) Copas of Cable; children, Justin (Julia) Copas of Richwood, Matt Hart of Urbana, Michael Walters of Urbana, Stacie and Tracy Copas both of Urbana, Malina (Chad) Trees of Rushsylvania, Alex (Stacie) McIntire of West Jefferson, and Lacie (Scott King) McIntire of Urbana; grandchildren: Zane, Leah and Chase Copas, Hayden and Miley Trees, and Landon McIntire; brothers, Robert (Margy) Copas of West Union, Terry (Nancy) Copas of Urbana, Paul (Mitzy) Copas of Urbana; sisters, Bonnie Mattox of Marysville, Bea (Marion) Young of Urbana, Sandra (Phil) Day of Urbana, Ruby Jones of Urbana, Ruth Ann Copas of Marion, Ohio; brother-in-laws, Paul (Joni) Louden of Westerville and Jerry Louden of Orlando, FL; sister-in-law Donna Preston of Delaware.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Robert and Clora (Castle) Copas; sister, Sharon and brother, Donald.


A gathering of family and friends will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2010 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana. A Home Going Celebration will follow at 6 p.m. in the funeral home with Pastor Brian Brooks officiating. The family invites everyone to join them for a reception following the service at the Mechanicsburg Christian Fellowship Church, 4401 Allison Rd, Mechanicsburg, OH 43044. In Bud’s honor, the family requests that everyone dress very casual. Following Bud’s wishes his body will be cremated. A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
