Richard Elton Dunn 84 of Urbana, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2009 in Wayne Hospital, Greenville, Ohio, after a long-term illness.


He was born September 6, 1924 in Springfield, Ohio the son of the late Ethel (Brooks) and Tony Sprohar.


Richard lived his life as a young man in Russels Point, Ohio where he raced boats for a living. He moved to Urbana, Ohio in 1953 where he then lived all of his adult life until illness brought him to Greenville, Ohio. He worked for C.E. Baur Company in Springfield, Ohio until his retirement in 1986. Richard had many friends that were near and dear to him and was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.


Richard is survived by his daughter, Anna (Dennis) Profitt of Greenville, his grandchildren, Holley, D.J., Ethan & Nicholas; great granddaughter, Alexis Nichole; special cousin, Jack Wilks of Maine; two stepchildren, Merril Craig and Sheryl Craig both of Urbana.


He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty Lee (Staton) Dunn; his longtime companion, Nitabell Journel.


A gathering of family and friends will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2009 in the Vernon Funeral Home Urbana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2009 in St. Mary Church with Father Gregory Konerman officiating. Burial will follow in OakDale Cemetery Urbana.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Rest Haven Nursing Facility, where he received comfort from the staff, his family and friends until the end of his life, 1096 North Ohio Street, Greenville, Ohio 45331. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.vernonfh.com.
