Richard Corwin Kennedy, 85, passed away on February 24, 2016, at Springfield Reginal Medical Center, Springfield.
He was born May 29, 1930 in North Lewisburg, Ohio. He was the son of the late Corwin and Lucy Mae (Huffman) Kennedy.
Richard was a graduate of North Lewisburg High School. He served his country in the United States Army and then worked as the Champaign County Highway Superintendent where he retired in 1990. Richard enjoyed many hours gardening his flowers and doing other yardwork, as well as hunting for mushrooms and arrowheads. He was also a life member of the V.F.W. of Urbana and the American Legion Post 120 of Urbana.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Karen Kay (Kenny) Baker of Cable; his 2 grandchildren, Marissa ( Jeremy ) Flax of Springfield and Cory Baker of Cable; 3 great grandchildren, Lane, Reese and Jacob Flax; and his sister, Anna Ruth (Jerry) Carter in addition to many nieces and nephews, including his special niece, Nikia Carr.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 33 years, Norma “Arlene” (Stepp) Kennedy; his brother Ed Stephen; and his sisters Goldie Shelpman, Donna Belle Westfall, and Millie Nawman.
A memorial service to celebrate Richard’s life will be held at a later date. Services are entrusted to VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana.
Memorial contributions may be made to the V.F.W. or American Legion Post 120, both of Urbana.
