Richard E. Stockton, 89, of Urbana passed away Monday, December 28, 2009 in his residence. He was born May 13, 1920 in Miami County, Ohio, the son of the late Frank R. and Erma (Roberts) Stockton.
Richard graduated from Christiansburg-Jackson High School in 1938 and then from the Ohio State University in 1943 with honors. He served his country during World War II as a First Lieutenant of Field Artillery for three years. Richard retired as Vice President and General Manager after thirty-six years with Plastics Research Products in Urbana. He served as a Director on the Perpetual Federal Savings and Loan Board from 1967 – 1992; and as Chairman of the Board from 1980 until retirement. He was a member and elder of First Presbyterian Church in Urbana, a member the Harmony Lodge # 8 in Urbana, a member of Phi Delta Kappa and Epsilon Pi Tau honorary fraternities. Richard enjoyed a lifelong hobby of collecting and restoring antique automobiles.
Richard is survived by his wife of 67 years, Betty Ann (Heath), three sons and daughters-in-law, David (Theresa) Stockton of Yellow Springs, Ohio, James (Patricia) Stockton of Springfield, Ohio, and Philip (Gail) Stockton of Nyack, New York, six grandchildren, Jennifer Reynolds, Rhonda (Brian) Guthrie, Shanda (Brian) Hawkes, Richard L. Stockton, Julia Stockton and Craig (Amy) Stockton, eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Walter Baker and grandson, Kelly Stockton.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 2, 2010 in the First Presbyterian Church, Urbana, Ohio with Rev. Dr. Kevin Horrigan officiating. The family will receive friends following the services for a time of food and fellowship at the church.
