Robert ”Bob” M. Davis, Sr., 90, of North Lewisburg, passed away Friday, September 21, 2012 in the Gables at Green Pastures, Marysville.
He was born October 18, 1921 in Naugatuck, West Virginia the son of Thomas and Vivian (Chapman) Davis.
Bob served his country in the United States Army during WWII. On June 6, 1944, Bob was part of the 1st assault group and was on the 1st wave that invaded Utah Beach, Normandy France. During the invasion he was wounded 3 times. Bob was a member of the Ch# 13 D.A.V. and the VFW #1031, Springfield and the American Legion post # 258, North Lewisburg. After more than 30 years, he retired from International Harvester / Navistar. He enjoyed welding art, four-wheeling, hunting, fishing and cooking out with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 12 years, Wanda (Emler) Davis; sons, Robert M. (Diane) Davis, Jr. of North Lewisburg, James Davis of Orlando, FL and Michael A. (Debbie) Davis of North Lewisburg; daughters, Patricia (Gary) Thomas of Cable, Phyllis (Don) Coleman of North Lewisburg and Tammy Dillon of Reynoldsburg; 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren & numerous great great grandchildren; step-children; Leatha (Michael) Johnston of GA, Connie (Bruce) Chambers of Springfield, Claude (Kathy) Penwell of GA & John (Rose) Penwell of Springfield, and numerous step grandchildren of several generations; sisters, Thelma Keeran of Bellefontaine, Juanita Coyle of Urbana and Hope Gillum of Cardington; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife of 57 years who passed away August 7, 1991, Ethel L. (Parsley) Davis; brothers, Tom, Jack and Douglas Davis; sisters, Ethel Stanley and Betty Stokes; and a stepson, Clarence Penwell.
Following Bob’s wishes, his body will be cremated.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate his life will take place at 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012 in the North Lewisburg United Methodist Church; where a service will follow at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Karen Montgomery and Pastor Tom Amlin will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 238 Mechanicsburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Champaign County, P.O. Box 38125 Urbana, Ohio 43078.
