Robert E.”Bob” DeLay, 76 of Mechanicsburg, passed away, Friday, July 1, 2011 in his home surrounded by his family.
He was born August 22, 1934 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio and graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1952. He attended Mechanicsburg Christian Fellowship Church.
Bob retired from International Harvester and Mechanicsburg School, where he worked as a Bus driver, Mechanic and Supervisor. He served as a township trustee for Goshen Township and was a Volunteer Fireman for 25 years. Bob enjoyed deer hunting, driving for Kehl’s Chevrolet and mushroom hunting. His lifelong passion was farming; he even received the FFA State degree.
Bob is survived by his wife, whom he married, October 13, 1962, Laura (Howerton) DeLay, his daughters, Marilyn (Steve) MacFadden of Dunedin, FL and Margie (David) Williams of Urbana, his sons, Bobby (Joni) DeLay of Meridian, MS and Russ (Anna) DeLay of Mechanicsburg, his grandchildren, Seth Garland, Mandy Perdue, Emily DeLay, Jacob DeLay and Joe Williams, 11 great grandchildren, his sisters, Betty (Eddie) Sundae of Ocala, FL and Judy (Barry) Thomas of Plain City, Ohio and several nieces and nephews.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Blanch (Smith) DeLay and a grandson, Gabe Garland.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2011 in the SKILLMAN, MCDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home Mechanicsburg, Ohio. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2011 in the funeral home with Pastor Linden Good officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
