Robert “Bob” Gene Spence, 84, passed away, Thursday, July 17, 2014 in Heartland of Urbana.


He was born August 4, 1929 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of William Andrew and Emma Matilda (Vanscoy) Spence.


Bob enjoyed living the life of a farmer. He was an admirable man, loving husband, just and fair father, and dotting grandfather. Bob loved life and his family and friends is what he loved to surround himself with. He enjoyed his travels on the road and his career. His favorite haul was hauling John Deere tractors. His love for farming was seen in his garden. Bob loved drinking his Stroh’s beer, sitting in his yard shooting mole hills and hunting for deer.


He is survived by his wife, Wanda; daughters, Cindy Spence of Xenia, Jami (Rex) Donohoe of North Lewisburg; sons, Bill Spence of Xenia, Robert Spence II of Woodstock and William Troy Spence of Alabama; 18 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brothers, David Spence; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Robert is preceded in death by his parents; sons, Robert Carl and Robert Pickett; daughter, Roben Gonslaves; son-in-law, Mike Gonslaves; brothers, Joe Spence and Roy Spence, sisters, Dollie Woodruff, Farrie Dobbs, Charlote Longfellow, Nellie Collins and Jane Morris.


A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana with Rev. Pamela Gaylor officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Miami Valley Chapter, 3797 Summit Glen Drive, G100, Dayton, OH 45449. Dear Wanda Robert & family:
Please accept our sincerest condolences on Bobs passing. My wife & I are deeply grateful that Bob attended our wedding & shared that special day with us. I’ll always remember Bob that every time he seen me he always talked to me & I liked to talk so I liked his conversation.
