Rodney “Rod” McKenzie, 63, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Tuesday, November 15, 2016 in Mercy Memorial Hospital, Urbana. Rod had been a patient of Heartland of Urbana since September of 2013. He was born on June 2, 1953 in Madison, West Virginia, the son of James and Oneida (Puckett) McKenzie.
He was a 1972 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School where he was a member of their Number 1 rated Indians Football Team in his high school days. Rod continued his education at Clark State Community College. He worked at Macy’s in the Upper Valley Mall, Springfield for many years, retiring in 2009. Rod was a member of the Ginghamsburg United Methodist Church in Tipp City and enjoyed sports, photography and music.
He is survived by his brother Gary (Ruth) McKenzie; nephew Randy Hilt of North Hampton; his aunts, Betty Puckett of Paintsville, Kentucky and Ruth McKenzie of London, Ohio; and his numerous cousins.
Rod is preceded in death by his parents.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, November 18, 2016 in the SKILLMAN, McDONALD & VERNON Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg with Dan Meckstroth officiating. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to the service from 12-1 PM. Burial will be held at a later date in Maple Grove Cemetery, Mechanicsburg.
The family would like to thank the staff at Heartland of Urbana for their efforts, care & kindness and Dan & Sue Meckstroth and the prayer group from church for their concern, visits, & many prayers.
