Roger E. Poland, 68, of Springfield, Ohio passed away Wednesday, November 26, 2014 in his residence. He was born November 13, 1946 in Urbana, Ohio to Harry and Mary (Alexander) Poland.
Roger was a 1964 graduate of Mechanicsburg High School. He served on the Mechanicsburg Fire Department from 1963 to 1990, where he retired as captain. He also retired from the Honda Motorcycle plant in Marysville after 25 years of service. Roger was a member of the Elks, the Buckeye Club and the Van Darby Club. He enjoyed hunting, sporting clay trapshooting and trivia at the Elks. Roger loved watching his grandchildren in sports and gymnastics and Alabama Football Ã¢Â€Â“ Roll Tide!
He is survived by his mother; son, Andrew (Staci) Poland of Mechanicsburg; daughter, Kim Poland (Marvin Nott) of North Lewisburg; grandchildren, Mason Poland, Hunter Rafferty, Lane and Lexi Poland; great granddaughter, Nathailee Wilhelm; and sisters, Debbie (Bill) Hodge and Kellie (Jeff) Pelfrey both of Mechanicsburg; nieces, Payton and Elaina Hodge, Madison Pelfrey; nephews, Kris (Jenny) Hodge, Ethan Hodge, J (Rachel) Hodge, Braden Hodge, Joey and Corey Pelfrey, Matt (Michelle) Pelfrey; as well as a host of friends, especially his trivia friends and hunting friends.
Roger was preceded in death by his father; paternal grandparents, June & Edna Poland; maternal grandparents, Jack & Ava (Moody) Alexander.
A celebration gathering and time of sharing will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at The Farm, 6588 Pisgah Road, Mechanicsburg, Ohio.
