Zerkle, Ruth Evelyn (Harris)
The seeds were all planted, The garden did grow. The chores are all finished. Now, It's time to go.
Ruth passed peacefully at her farm home in Urbana on January 5, 2021. Born at home February 15, 1923 in Clark County the daughter of the late Fred & Anna Belle (Wright) Harris. Ruth was the 5th of 6 children. She graduated from Enon High School in 1941 and is the last remaining member of her graduating class. As a young lady, she was employed by the First National Bank of Springfield, where she posed in a picture for the very 1st drive-up window in the U.S. She later worked at Producers Livestock in Clark County & Champaign Livestock in Champaign County for over 40 years combined.
She married Donald E. Zerkle in 1950 and they made a life on the farm raising & milking Holsteins & growing most of their food. She was a very good seamstress not only for her family but for their Barbie dolls as well.
Ruth is survived by her children, Keith Zerkle, Joan Zerkle, Nan (John) Mason and Faye (Duane) Van Buskirk; grandchildren, Luke, (Candy) Myers, Tyler (Bexley) Myers and Cody (Bailey) Van Buskirk; great grandchildren, Harper Myers, Rowan & Nora Myers and Atlas Van Buskirk; sisters-in-law, Imogene (Paul deceased) Harris and Betty (Marvin deceased) Zerkle as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald E. Zerkle, who passed in 1996; siblings, Wayne Harris, Jeanne Pfeifer, Paul Harris, Pauline Harris and Norman Harris.
The family is grateful that mom got to stay at home on the farm with the loving care of her family and Ohio's Hospice of Dayton. They would especially like to thank nurse, Rhonda, Chaplin Janie Brewer and caregivers, Brittany and Megan for their constant support and helping to keep her COVID free.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021 in the OakDale Cemetery with Chaplin Janie Brewer officiating.
