Sarah Ann (Houser) Brinnon 88, of Urbana, passed away Sunday, February 6, 2011, in Mercy McAuley Center. She was born May 6, 1922, in Urbana, OH to her parents Dorell C. and Ruth (Gutherie) Houser.
Sarah was a 1940 graduate of Urbana High School and was valedictorian of her class; repeating the same honor which her mother held in the class of 1916. She was a past employee of W.H. Marvin Co. of Urbana during WW II; Sarah married Frank Brinnon Jr. on October 11, 1946. She was a member of the Messiah Lutheran Church of Urbana; Sarah additionally belonged to the Urbana Chapter # 530 Order of Eastern Star, where she was Past Worthy Matron and held other offices; a life member of the VFW Post 5451 Ladies Auxiliary, and a member of Pearce Kerns American Legion Auxiliary Unit 120. In the past, Sarah enjoyed gardening, bowling, fishing, and UHS football and basketball; until her passing she continued to watch the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cleveland Browns. Sarah created many beautiful handmade pieces of stitchery and knitting over the years. She loved animals and supported PAWS and the Humane Society.
She is survived by her children Mary Jane (Robert “Otis” ) Wisener of Yorktown, IN; Frank Thomas “Tom” (Molly) Brinnon of Urbana; and Sarah Elizabeth “Sally” (John) Wren of West Liberty, OH; her grandchildren Rhett, Tara (Chet Dunscombe), and Scarlett Wisener; Apryl (Richard) Hughes; Gabriel T. Brinnon, Tad (Andrea) Loffing, Stacey (Russ) Bohannon, and Stephanie (Tim) Vellky; 14 great grandchildren; her sister-in-law Miriam “Ann” Houser of Jackson, WY and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her brother, Dr. Robert G. Houser DVM.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the following associations who helped their mother during the long siege with pulmonary fibrosis and Parkinson’s: Donna Hall and subs of Comfort Keepers; Sterling House; the McAuley Center; and especially, the Community Mercy Hospice staff.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 12, 2011 in the VERNON FUNERAL HOME, Urbana, OH; the Rev. Michael Poole will be officiating. The Order of Eastern Star Services will be provided by Urbana Chapter #530 during the memorial service. The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. prior to the service. Per Sarah’s wishes her body will be cremated.
